PICTURES gathers 12 large-format photographic abstractions by Sam Falls, Mariah Robertson, Marcelo Gomes and Taisuke Koyama.
Visually alluring with a profound impact, these images highlight an intriguing new development in our relationship to photographic images.
Not all pictures are photographs, but all photographs are PICTURES. PICTURES will be the inaugural exhibition at Diptrics, a new fashion and art space designed by legendary architect Tadao Ando in Tokyo’s Aoyama district.
Presented by Gallery Target, PICTURES will be on view at Diptrics from November 8 - 21, daily, 12pm - 7pm. Opening November 7, 2011, 6pm - 8pm.
Gallery: Diptrics is a three story showroom and office located in Aoyama, Tokyo that represents designers such as Rachel Comey, Bless, United Bamboo, Charles Anastase, P.A.M. and Karen Walker. Gallery Target is an independent Tokyo gallery offering works by artists such as Andy Warhol, Joseph Bueys, Roy Lichtenstein, Damien Hirst, Thomas Ruff and Margaret Kilgallen.
Artists: Marcelo Gomes was born in Brazil and now resides in the United States. He has published two books with Hassla: ‘Love and Before, Green and After’ in 2008 and ‘Taciturn Heart’ in 2010. He has a collaboration with Japanese fashion brand Niuhans due in 2012. Mariah Robertson’s most recent recent solo exhibition was at the Baltic Mill art center in the United Kingdom. She has presented work at Greater New York at PS1 and with curator Klaus Bisenbach at Art Basel in Miami. Sam Falls has exhibited his work at OHWOW in Los Angeles and Higher Pictures in New York. He was recently selected to create the cover of the 200th issue of Dazed and Confused magazine. Taisuke Koyama has exhibited and published extensively in Tokyo, Taipei, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Amsterdam, Berlin and Paris.
Curator: Ken Miller is editor/curator of Revisionaries (Abrams Image) and SHOOT (Rizzoli International). SHOOT was presented with events at the New Museum in New York, Colette in Paris, PARCO in Tokyo, UCCA in Beijing, FOAM Fotografiemuseum in Amsterdam and Tate Modern in London. Ken has additionally been a curatorial consultant for Phillips de Pury, Uniqlo and MINI cars. |
